Young Adults, Part Trois

Jonathan Wiebe - 2007-09-10
Act 3

Ask anyone involved in our young adults programming back in '05 whether they expected to see a third consecutive year of activity and they'll probably smile. Whether those smiles betray a pleasant surprise or a quiet confidence may never be known. Nevertheless...

Welcome to the third annual instalment of Eastview Community Church's young adult community. We are led by a small, developing team of young leaders including David Dacombe, Sonja Lepp, Adam Wood, and Jonathan Wiebe, as well as a dedicated group of small group shepherds. After scaling back the programming schedule for the summer months, the new ministry season has arrived. As with everything in life, change is constant and in many cases, change is good. That said, we've adjusted our programming somewhat to better reflect our mission but we expect the structure to be familiar enough to jump right in.

We are returning to our two-event per month schedule, occurring on the second and fourth Sunday evenings of each month. The first event of the month is a socially-oriented evening called our Openhouse - Indoor Soccer combo night. It's basically a hybrid of two activities, one being an informal coffeehouse and the second being a casual indoor soccer game.

The second event of the month is known as our Gathering. We have adjusted this event to be a time dedicated first and foremost to biblical teaching and prayer. This will be followed up with an informal coffeehouse, much like that of the Openhouse - Indoor Soccer combo night. These events are designed to provide a venue where young adults can satisfy their hunger for deeper Bible teaching, where they can spend extended periods of time in prayer, as well as where they can continue to nurture friendships.

Small groups are another significant part of the young adult community. They provide a setting for further Bible study, prayer, and soul care. We desire to create a community where everyone is a part of one of these groups and we place a high value on participating in them. We also strongly encourage small groups to get involved in service to marginalized people in our city.

Finally, we do get together for a special event or two throughout the ministry season, particularly our retreat, which usually takes place at the end of February or the beginning of March. Expect more information regarding that weekend in the new year.

We hope young adults at Eastview Community Church will join us in creating a mission-oriented, disciple-making community within our church. Keep coming back here, to our website, for more details.
