As another day comes to a close, our huge group of smelly kids sit together in our co-ed room in L.A. Today was the first day that we were all separated into three separate smaller groups to go to our ministry sites. As it turns out, my group had to leave the earliest at a striking seven o'clock am. As we scarfed down our bagels at Noah's we discussed where we would be heading to start our day of ministry.
Cory and his bright blue shoes followed us to Project Angel Food where we humbled ourselves into hair nets and attractive plastic aprons. It was necessary though because the food we would be packaging is delivered to HIV/AIDS and cancer patients. The day went smoothly as we all prepared food in different areas of the kitchen UNTIL Joel discovered an efficiency flaw in the breakfast bag assembly line. Now according to the original assembly line, we were totally fine...but he thought we were not hustling fast enough. And so he yelled "HUSTLE UP TEAM. DIG DEEP. GO GO GO!" Luckily! Joel is not just all talk but he served his rightful purpose placing four pieces of fruit in each bag.
After enjoying lunch at that site, we were tasked with the delivery of several lunch packages. The responses ranged from unimpressed to overly greatful. Either way, it was nice to put a know that the food we prepared was going to someone who truly needed it.
Without a break, we headed straight to Salvation Army South LA youth center where we all got dragged around by very engaging kids. Most of us left with a story to tell about a precious child and the moments that we shared with them. it was amazing to see how fast these kids would attach to someone they'd known for not even one minute.
Supper was interesting. We had a fried banana. With dried banana on the side. And chicken that had the banana -like after taste. But there no denying that the Nicaraguan food that we were served was excellent since most plates were left spotless.
We headed over to USC campus for our evening devotions and God Moments as a large group.
Tomorrow is a new day with new experiences and new things to see.
You'll get a new perspective from another group tomorrow evening.
GOODNIGHT.
(love you mom...)
