Mission Statement

Why we exist as a church

Eastview Community Church

Our vision is simple: to become a biblically functioning community of believers so that Christ's redemptive purposes can be accomplished in this world.

Our mission is equally clear: to lead people to Christ and on to maturity in Him.

The mission of our church is summarized in a single sentence based on two key scriptures.

The Great Commandment: "Jesus said 'Love the Lord your God with all your heart... soul... and mind. This is the first and greatest commandment. And the second is like it: Love your neighbor as yourself. All the Law and Prophets hang on these two commandments.'" Matt. 22:36-40

The Great Commission: "Jesus said, 'Go and make disciples of all nations, baptizing them in the name of the Father and of the Son and of the Holy Spirit and teaching them to obey everything I have commanded you.'" Matt. 28:19-20

Eastview is a church designed to serve both Christians and those who might consider themselves spiritual seekers. It's a safe place for people who are looking for answers to their spiritual questions, and simply want to check out Christianity without anyone pressuring them.

It's also a place where those who have decided to follow Jesus Christ can learn and be encouraged in their spiritual growth.

What truly defines a church is not simply its doctrine, but its values. Eastview's core values are simple, but like any set of values, they shape who we are.

Though non-traditional in style, Eastview is deeply committed to the eternal truths of the Christian faith. These values are the beliefs and convictions that support and drive our vision as a church.

  • The church functions as a body

    I Corinthians 12

That believers minister according to the gifts that God has given them. That members of the body value their inter-personal relationships.

  • Full devotion to Christ is normal for a believer

    Colossians 3:1-17; Matthew 22:37

That Christ calls us to passionately follow him in all areas of our lives. This devotion is expressed in our commitment to the disciplines of the Christian life including:

    • regular worship including public worship services, personal Bible reading, meditation and prayer
    • that our lives are given over to the empowerment of the Holy Spirit so that His gifts and fruit are evident in our lives
    • make priorities in response to our relationship with Jesus.
  • Lost people matter to God, and therefore to us

    Luke 15, Matthew 28:19

That we possess God's heart for the people of this world, expressed through:

    • a lifestyle committed to communicating the reality of Jesus to people around us
    • a compassion and burden for reaching the lost people of our world
  • The church is culturally relevant while remaining doctrinally pure

    I Corinthians 9:19-23

That we minister in ways that don't compromise the Gospel but recognize the effectiveness of certain methods for our time.

  • Small groups are vital for believers' spiritual growth

    Acts 2:42-47

That small groups give us an environment to practice the disciplines of a healthy spiritual life including:

    • accountability to other believers,
    • development of meaningful relationships,
    • participation in prayer, and
    • application of God's Word
  • All we do is to honour God

    Colossians 3:17

That our lives, in attitude, word, and action, whether we are ministering within the context of 'church' or during the week, reveal our commitment to honor our God.

  • Scripture is our basis for faith and life

    Romans 10: 17, 2; Timothy 3:16

That God's Word is our authority and guide for life and completely trustworthy.

  • Prayer undergirds all ministry

    Acts 2:42

That we recognize our dependence on God and the power and leading of His Spirit for life and ministry to touch people's hearts and change people's lives.

  • Integrity and authenticity are essential for spiritual growth

    Ephesians 4:25, 26, 32

That beneath all that we as the people of God do lies a transformed, genuine life, empowered by the Spirit of God.

  • Leadership is responsible to provide leadership

    Ephesians 4:11-13; Romans 12:6-8

That God requires leadership to challenge, encourage, motivate, and equip the church to be His arm of redemption in the world.
