Eastview has been without a Worship Pastor for six years. During this time we have prayed and sought God’s direction for the person he has in mind for us. Several months ago Steve Dick approached Council and told us that he had a feeling he could not shake – and that feeling was that God was calling him to the position of Worship Pastor at Eastview. At that point we were in the middle of hiring our new Associate Pastor Dave Ens. We asked Steve to place those feelings on hold until that process was complete. Three weeks ago I announced to you that Steve Dick had resigned from Council and that that same Steve Dick out of obedience put in his application to be the Worship Pastor of Eastview. After Pastor Delbert met with Steve to discern his gifts, his heart and his calling, Council also met with Steve to discern the same. We felt then, as we do today, that Steve would be a good fit. As a result of our meetings we presented Steve to you as a candidate for the Worship Pastor position. We announced that Steve would be leading worship today, but as you can see, that has not happened. The membership has indicated to us that they feel this process is too rushed and has not allowed for sufficient interaction and discernment. In order to honour our commitment to you to be transparent and approachable in our mandate to provide leadership, we have decided to amend the process in order to promote enhanced dialogue. Exactly what this looks like will be determined in the coming week. Our expeditious desire has caused unnecessary anxiety for both Eastview and for Steve. Please forgive us for this. And pray for Eastview, for Council, and for Steve and Regina as we continue to discover God’s direction.
