Becoming a Christian

Becoming A Follower of Christ

Most people live their entire lives without ever knowing "Why?" They exist year after year with no idea of why they live or God's purpose for their lives. The most basic question a person can ask is, "What is the meaning of my life?"

The Bible says that you were created by God for a purpose. We were created to enjoy a personal relationship with God and vested with the work of managing the rest of His creation.

The Bible also tells us that when we know and love God and live in harmony with his purpose for our lives, it produces tremendous benefits in our lives - such things as a clear conscience, peace, confidence, security, strength, freedom and fulfillment. But if this is the kind of lifestyle that God intended for us to live, "Why aren't most people living this way?"

The problem is people have a natural desire to go their own way and to ignore God's principles for living for which we pay a heavy price. This attitude causes us to break our close relationship with God as we live outside of His will. The Bible also states that when our relationship with God isn't right, it spills over into every area of our lives - our marriages, careers, relationships, finances etc.

Rather than turning to God at this point we have a tendency to try many different ways of coping all of which lead eventually to disillusionment, heartache, frustration and loss of hope.

But there is another way to do life! Jesus himself said, "I am the way, the truth and the life. No one comes to the Father, except through Me!" In the most amazing act of human history, God out of love for each of us, came to earth as a human being to bring us back to Himself. More than that, His desire for restored community was so great that He willingly sacrificed His own Son, Jesus to pay the penalty for our disobedience that justice demanded.

The Good New is that God has already done His part to restore our relationship with Him. He took the initiative and now waits for each of us to individually do our part and accept the gift of grace and eternal life He offers. Will you? You are only a prayer away!

Dear Jesus,

Thank you for making me and loving me, even when I've ignored you and gone my own way. I realize I need you in my life and I'm sorry for my sins. I ask you to forgive me. Thank you for dying on the cross for me. Please help me to understand it more. As much as I know how, I want to follow you from now on. Please come into my life and make me a new person inside. I accept your gift of salvation. Please help me to grow now as a follower of yours. Amen

If you just prayed this prayer: Congratulations! The Bible says that

  • Jesus came into your life
  • Your sins are forgiven
  • You are a child of God
  • You have an eternal home in heaven
