Covid-19 has stressed us all.  If I am feeling overwhelmed, anxious and confused, Worship Music is therapeutic to my soul.  On Tuesday, May 19th myself and a few friends spent the evening in worship – focusing our attention on Jesus, His promises, His declarations, and His Love for us.  You can watch it here – but let me encourage you to turn to God and the comfort the Lord can provide when feeling overwhelmed.

Blessings,

Pastor Steve

Some of you have been asking “what’s going on at Eastview during Covid-19” or “Is there things I can do or be involved in to help others?”  Good thoughts.  We will do our best to keep this page updated, but our staff and board are meeting several days a week to discuss this very thing.  As well – There was a need recently that our church really came through for – a request for scrub caps.    This video that was made for Eastview as a thank you.

So, do you want to get involved?  Perhaps there is a way that we haven’t even thought of yet.  Stay tuned for more feedback, needs, responses.

SCRUB CAP THANK YOU

Ways to get involved during physical distancing:

If you are finding yourself with extra time on your hands, there are many ways you can get involved and still respect the physical distancing guidelines.  Here are a few ways:

  • Pray for Eastview ministry partners (Willowdale Fellowship Church, Forward House Ministries, Dignity House, Charis Centre, Dave & Louise Sinclair-Peters and their teams in Thailand and Myanmar, Women Refreshed at the Well)
  • Pray for your neighbors and friends who may be finding the isolation especially hard.
  • Phone your neighbors and friends who are isolated.
  • Drop-off supplies for One88. They are in need of milk, juice, Lysol wipes, infant formula, dry goods (pasta, sauce, canned meats/veggies), toilet paper.  Items can be dropped off at Eastview.
  • Drop-off supplies for Dignity House. They are in need of toilet paper and small frozen casseroles or soups.   Please label these for Dignity House and drop off at Eastview.

Another way to help – but it involves leaving your house:

  • Support Freedom House (formerly Walls of Freedom). They have suspended all of their gatherings, but acknowledge that there is still a need in their community. They want to continue to provide meals and a foodbank that is much needed in the community they serve.  Ways to serve Freedom House include:
  1. Provide food supplies: Milk, juice, pasta, sauce, canned meats/veggies, bread
  2. Volunteer – They need 4-5 volunteers/days and times are – Sunday 3 to 4 pm, Tuesday & Wednesday 10 to 11 am. These volunteers will be pre-packing lunches.  The lunches will later be distributed by staff outside the building.
  • For the volunteer work space they have created a spread out workflow system in their kitchen and dining hall area to ensure that the volunteer team preparing and packing food are at least 2 meters apart from each other. All of their team are required to wash their hands every 20 minutes and have to use gloves at all times.
  • Please note that they take the warning and instructions from Government and health authorities very seriously, to this end they have taken the above steps to ensure that they adhere to protocols and to safeguard their volunteers and community.
  • To get involved with Freedom House, contact Derrick Moodley:   derrickm@freedomhousewpg.ca   | 204-229-8224

Mar. 13th – 7pm

Dear Eastview Community Church Family,

Based on recommendations from the Government of Canada, the Canadian Conference of Mennonite Brethren Churches, and in consultation with other MB churches in Manitoba, Eastview has decided to cancel our in-person gatherings this Sunday morning.

We will be putting together an online service for you to engage with your family or life group this Sunday morning. Stay tuned to our Instagram and Facebook accounts, as well as our Website for details on how to access the online gathering.

We made the decision to cancel the services not out of fear, but based on our high calling to be an outstanding witness to Christ for our neighbours and our world. It is our hope that the body of Christ at Eastview can still function fully in the weeks ahead, though things may look a little different. We especially want to pay great attention to those who are most at risk, and are asking for our members to participate in grocery delivery, phone calls, prayer and any other areas that will meet pressing needs both in the body and beyond.

Hebrews 10:23-25 says,
“Let us hold on to the confession of our hope without wavering, since he who promised is faithful. And let us watch out for one another to provoke love and good works, not neglecting to gather together, as some are in the habit of doing, but encouraging each other, and all the more as you see the day approaching.”

Eastview, let’s use this as an opportunity to function as the living body of Christ in these quickly-changing times. Let us actually spur one another on to doing good for each other and the world. Let us provoke love in one another for the most vulnerable around us, and let us continue to be creative in the ways we meet together!

Just because we cannot gather at a physical location together does not mean we cease to be the body of Christ at Eastview. We will continue to be in communication with you in the days ahead through social media and our website.

If you are someone who is need of assistance, or if you would like to participate in serving those most at risk, please email pastoralcare@eastview.org. We are looking forward to seeing and experiencing the Holy Spirit work in new ways in and through our church body!

In Christ,

The Pastoral and Leadership Team of Eastview.

Mar. 13th – 10am

The global spread of Covid 19 has been declared a global pandemic by the World Health Organization. As Christ followers, we are uniquely positioned to share the hope, life and promises of Jesus in the midst of the growing fear in our society. We have a deep assurance of God’s knowledge and care for us, and we want to respond in Wisdom and precaution while remaining at peace.

Here’s a few ways we’re seeking to respond in wisdom at Eastview:

  • Increased sanitization of bathrooms, pews, and door knobs/handles
  • More hand sanitizer readily available
  • Ushers/Greeters doing elbow bumps instead of shaking hands
  • Changes to how we do Offering/Communion

For those who are feeling unwell, have a cough, a cold, or a sore throat, please do not attend. We are working to get our services streamed online and we invite you to participate in our services from home. If you’re sick and will be staying at home, let us know. We’d love to pray for you. Please email pastoralcare@eastview.org.

For seniors or those who are immunocompromised, we invite you to stay at home and take in the services online. We want to keep connection as much as possible so we ask that you would let us know if you are one of these people so we can call and provide some connection and support for you. This also means we’ll need people from our church stepping up to help care for those who will not make it out to our services. Please email pastoralcare@eastview.org if you are available to help.

Throughout history, the church has responded to pandemic and epidemic outbreaks by bringing a gospel of peace, and hope of life in Christ. We are uniquely positioned in our world because as Christ followers, we do not fear death, nor suffering, but instead walk in confidence knowing Christ has walked before us. This is something we are able to model to the world, and gives us an incredible opportunity to share the gospel when people notice we are not responding in fear, but rather in wisdom.

Hebrews 2:14-15 says, “Now since the children have flesh and blood in common, Jesus also shared in these, so that through his death he might destroy the one holding the power of death – that is, the devil – and free those who were held in slavery all their lives by the fear of death.”

Friends, we are uniquely positioned in our world, let us not respond as people who live in fear, but let us respond as children of the one true God who have the wisdom of the Holy Spirit and the promise of eternal life.

In Christ,

The Pastoral Team & Leadership Board
